X52
Research in the U.S. and other countries shows that increasing patrols, and publicizing these extra patrols, can reduce alcohol-involved crashes.
X52 stands for extra law enforcement patrols, 52 weeks of the year. X52 patrols are carried out on state highways, local streets, and tribal roadways. They focus on areas with a high rate of fatal crashes.
Program Objectives
Prevent crashes caused by impaired driving
We provide grants to the Washington State Patrol and local and tribal law enforcement agencies for X52 patrols. A statewide network of local task forces administers the program.
Raise public awareness about increased patrols
Extra patrols are even more effective when we tell the public about them through ads and news stories.
