Most crashes involving cars and semi-trucks are caused by car drivers who don’t leave enough space when they pass or merge.
We support driver education that teaches how to drive safety around trucks.
Program Objectives
Support law enforcement patrols
We conducted a pilot project for the FMCSA and NHTSA called TACT (Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks) that used law enforcement patrols and driver education to reduce car-truck crashes. We also assisted the Washington State Patrol with a TACT campaign on rural roads.
Educate drivers
TACT projects used road signs, radio ads, banners, rack cards and posters to remind drivers to “Leave more space for trucks.”
